Déclaration de l’artiste: 

« Le thème de la culture a toujours motivé mes recherches photographiques […] J’ai utilisé ce médium pour définir la culture américaine de l’intérieur, dont l’élément central est l’apport afro américain en général et plus particulièrement celui du jazz. […] Pour savoir où vous allez, vous devez d’abord savoir d’où vous venez. L’intérêt que je porte à la musique est lié à son aspect historique, sa provenance, son parcours, l’évolution de celui-ci et l’expression de sa forme actuelle. La première étape de ce voyage m’a conduit en Afrique, lieu de ses origines. La seconde aux Antilles et la troisième à La Nouvelle Orléans. La musique est née, ensuite elle s’est codifiée et elle a évolué tout au long de cet itinéraire ».
