Artist's Statement
Luis Enrique CAMEJO
Artist's statement:
I find my inspiration in post impressionism and most specifically in Seurat, whose interest is based on the physical aspect of painting and the question of formalisation in Art.
However, I feel less attracted by the photographic and scientific aspects which inspired them. I adopt this way of painting as a personal tool of identification within the turmoil of the fragmented and vernacular, changing and pluridimensional reality we see today, that is a metaphor of the idea of dispersion, of the instability of reality, the fragmentation of our discourses, the necessity of showing an image as a space - my sole intention is to recolour the surface with an armour of ordered, deliberately scattered marks of paintbrushes, thus revealing the sensitivity of painting which moves over the extension of the surface and takes shape through the colouration.
I strive to illustrate our contemporary trends, which are as confused as they are indescribable, inappropriate and precarious, as is the spirit of our time, which invades today’s cultural phenomena and all fields of understanding.
